This Year’s Heron

IMG_4481 IMG_4492 IMG_4505 IMG_4512 IMG_4516 IMG_4526 IMG_4521The days that I drive past the pond and see the Heron, I must stop.  If it makes me late for work, then so be it.  I don’t often get close enough to this bird so I view each chance as a gift.

Last year, I was able to capture the Heron, mid-froggy snack.  (I’m a full animal rights girl with a 20+ year vegetarian record so this makes me a little sad, but it is nature and I must leave it be).  Yesterday I was able to capture the hunt and acquisition of a small fish. I really do not enjoy watching the last moments of something’s life, but the capture itself is a joy.  And it would have happened regardless of my presence.  Much as the ego would love that a heron tried to impress me, that was simply not the case.
